By offering clearly-tagged and distinctive products, from single bets to combination bets like Quinté+, PMU offers a response to the gambling preferences and practices of the French people, at all levels of expertise and playing frequency. In 2009, PMU chose to optimize its range of betting options, having no qualms about discontinuing an offer that had clearly stirred no public response, like Quadrio, which was stopped on 31 December. Quinté+ celebrated its 20th year in existence and gave one winner the distinct pleasure of taking home PMU’s 3rd-largest jackpot and the biggest amount ever won through Pariez spOt: 6.4 million Euros.

In 2009, several new betting options were introduced, so as to offer punters a wider range of options. The 2sur4 and Multi offers were extended and are now available for 2 races at each meeting. Since December 2009, Couplé Ordre is available for all races with more than 4 runners, Trio Ordre with more than 5 runners.

Lastly, the automatic bidding offer, Pariez spOt, was extended to Couplé Gagnant and Placé, Tiercé, Classic Tiercé and Quarté+.

A range of races tailored to the French people’s pace of life

A broader range of races can be a powerful vehicle for punter loyalty and boosts the sales outlets’ attractiveness. This is why PMU has chosen to continue its policy of broadening its race offering, in particular by extending its days to 3-meetings on Saturdays, since February 2009, doing the same for Wednesdays since February 2010 and Mondays since April 2010. The idea is to offer races continuously, from 12 noon to 8 PM, making it possible for punters to bet whenever they wish. Moreover, since April 2010, the mainstay Sunday event has also moved up, with the introduction of mini-meeting in late morning, between 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, a time particularly well-liked by players.

The widespread success of international races

To supplement its original French range of races, PMU offers its punters a selection of international races from 21 different countries. They attract a large French following, for their prestige and the quality of the champions who take part in them. In 2009, this offer generated 76 million euros in turnover, on the rise by 16%.
