A responsible player and a good corporate citizen
For several years now, the PMU has committed to being a responsible corporate player: toward the equine sector, which it finances; toward its clients and sales outlet network operators, by promoting responsible gambling.
A structured approach
In 2003, PMU initiated a process to promote responsible gambling by supporting the association “SOS Joueurs”. Six years on, the commitment has been stepped up, with the publication of a charter entitled “Our Responsibility, Our Commitments”, which formally lists the resources put to work to make the commitment to responsible gambling concrete and effective.
An open and joint effort
With punters and employees, of course, but also with suppliers, healthcare professionals, associations, the general public, opinion makers and others, PMU works to ensure full stakeholder involvement in the responsible gambling approach.
The 4 pillars of responsible gambling
- - Prevention
In 2009, new preventive signage was deployed at sales outlets and online with two new logos: “Gambling responsibly” and “No gambling under age 18”. This signage has also been replicated on all of the bet placement media. Online, a number of tools are available to help punters stay in control. - - Support for medical research
PMU contributes to scientific research in order to enable a greater understanding of gambling abuse and pathologies and the prevention tools that need to be implemented. The company funds projects at hospital centers and research laboratories. - - Training
All new PMU employees receive training on the topic of responsible gambling as part of their orientation with the company. Likewise, the personnel at the 27 sales agencies in the regions and PMU employees working in direct contact with punters are regularly given awareness-raising about the issue. - - Experience-sharing
PMU involves its partners and service providers in its approach through a wide range of initiatives in the field of communication. To wit, in 2009, PMU signed the Charter of the Advertisers Union (UDA) for responsible communication. It also takes part in work carried out by the Regulatory Authority on Advertising (ARPP) and the Grouping of Online Publishers (GESTE), on gambling and online betting.
